GRANBY STREET MARKET
Shot across a single day on Granby Street in Toxteth, this project documents the people and interactions that shape Granby Street Market.
Originally approached as a way of documenting the atmosphere of Granby Street Market, the work gradually became more focused on the people themselves and the sense of familiarity that runs through the space on the first Saturday of every month.
I spent the day photographing the market as it unfolded around me, trying to reflect the reality of the space and the connections that exist within it. The result is a portrait of presence: a record of one day, and the steady rhythm of a place that continues to hold meaning in the face of change.
Commissioned for exhibition at the Granby Winter Garden, the project sits within a long history of photography connected to Toxteth. The legacy of artists like Leroy Cooper remains present in memory, in print and in the fabric of the streets themselves. I made this work with that history in mind, while offering a quieter reflection on what Granby continues to be.
